Broomfield, Colorado USA, October 22, 2008 — MWH Soft, a leading global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, today announced that Hillsborough County Water Resource Services (WRS) in Florida has selected MWH Soft’s industry-leading InfoWater software to manage its drinking water infrastructure. The InfoWater database is fully integrated with the county’s existing GIS database, offering WRS an intuitive user interface while leveraging the power of hydraulic network modeling and design.
With a population of more than 1.2 million, Hillsborough County is the fourth most populous county in Florida and the nation’s 37th-largest county. WRS currently owns and operates three major water treatment plants, two re-pump stations, two booster pump stations, and 2,200 miles of transmission and distribution lines, serving 500,000 of the County’s 1.2 million residents. WRS plans to use InfoWater to enhance the performance and operational effectiveness of its water system, to optimize capital improvement projects, and to further improve their continued development of detailed, accurate hydraulic models. Their models have already been used in various research projects by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and the American Water Works Association Research Foundation (AWWARF), along with the Universities of Cincinnati, Emory, and South Florida.
“We are pleased to expand our relationship with MWH Soft by acquiring the best GIS-centric solution available for water distribution system modeling and management,” said James Jeffers, P.E., Planning and Design Section Manager for WRS. “We chose InfoWater because we wanted to standardize on a powerful geospatial solution that offers seamless GIS integration with comprehensive network modeling and optimization capabilities. Those features enable faster, more informed decision-making for maximum effectiveness, improve engineering productivity through greater efficiencies, and help us continue to best serve our customers.”
Unlike competing products, the innovative GIS-centric network modeling technology of MWH Soft InfoWater software addresses every facet of water utility infrastructure management, optimization and protection — delivering the highest rate of return in the industry. Built atop ArcGIS (ESRI, Redlands, CA) with native geodatabase support and drawing on the most advanced numerical computation and object-component geospatial technologies, it effortlessly reads GIS datasets; corrects network topology problems and data flaws; extracts pertinent modeling information; and automatically and accurately constructs, skeletonizes, loads, calibrates and generates optimized solutions with astounding speed.
The result is performance modeling that sets new levels of scalability, reliability, functionality and flexibility within the powerful ArcGIS environment. Using these advanced tools, utilities can easily simulate and evaluate various conditions, pinpoint system deficiencies, and determine the most cost-effective improvements to achieve optimum performance and regulatory compliance, and meet vital security challenges.
Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, MWH Soft’s President and COO, said: “Our continued investment in best-of-breed GIS-centric modeling and design solutions that are easy to implement and use is giving our customers superior business advantages — delivering consistent, high quality engineering GIS modeling data, enhanced efficiency and reliable, cost-effective projects. WRS is a vivid illustration of how progressive, leading water utilities are using these highly effective tools to optimize capital planning and raise the bar for better infrastructure performance and customer service. MWH Soft is proud to participate in the county’s success.”
