Florida's Third Most Populous City Adopts MWH Soft
Advanced Engineering GIS Modeling Technology

Industry's Premier InfoSWMM to Support City of Tampa's Comprehensive
Geospatial Wastewater Infrastructure Management

Broomfield, Colorado USA, June 17, 2008 — MWH Soft, a leading global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, today announced that the City of Tampa Wastewater Department in Florida has chosen MWH Soft’s industry leading InfoSWMM Suite software to supplant its existing dynamic sewerage network modeling solution. The program, chosen following a competitive review, will be used to screen and evaluate cost-effective sewer collection system management strategies aimed at effectively accommodating rapid community growth. The selection further underlines MWH Soft’s undisputed leadership in geospatial hydraulic infrastructure modeling and management.

With a population of 334,550 and a service area of 116.1 square miles, Tampa is county seat and largest city in Hillsborough County and the third most populous city in Florida. It is located on the west coast of the state, approximately 200 miles northwest of Miami, 180 miles southwest of Jacksonville, and 20 miles northeast of St. Petersburg. The city wastewater department owns, operates and maintains a complex wastewater infrastructure system comprising over 1,930 miles of sanitary sewers piping, 223 pump stations and one treatment plant with a daily flow capacity of 96 million gallons.

“The Department has begun an extensive effort to improve its asset management strategies and capabilities,” said Anthony Kasper, P.E., Chief Engineer for the Tampa Wastewater Department. “A significant part of that effort is to be able to accurately evaluate the operational characteristics of the collection system and cross-reference a comprehensive hydraulic evaluation against historical data related to maintenance activities. To achieve that goal we were looking for a software package that would enable us to create a dynamic system-wide hydraulic model for gravity sewers, force mains, and pump stations. Additionally, the model would have to be compatible to ArcGIS so that it could be overlaid and/or integrated with our other geospatial data, including a record drawing management system and a computerized maintenance management system. InfoSWMM came highly recommended to us as a package that could meet those requirements and much more.”

Built atop ArcGIS with native geodatabase support, InfoSWMM is a full-featured urban drainage and wastewater network analysis and design program that delivers the highest rate of return in the industry — making it the right choice for organizations that need a complete, powerful sanitary, storm and combined sewer modeling solution.

InfoSWMM addresses all the operations of a typical sewer system — from analysis and design to management functions — in a single, fully integrated geoengineering environment. It allows engineers to examine backwater effects and reverse flow, trunk sewers, open channels, complex piping connections, and a comprehensive library of ancillary structures with sophisticated real-time controls. The software delivers world-record performance, scalability, reliability, functionality and flexibility within the powerful ArcGIS environment, completely eliminating the need for inefficient, unreliable data synchronization, synching schemes, or middlelink interfaces required by other software. These factors and more translate to increased productivity, reduced costs, greater efficiency, and improved designs — giving wastewater utilities a clear competitive advantage.

Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, MWH Soft’s President and COO, said: “Our continued investment in best-of-breed GIS-centric modeling and design solutions that are easy to implement and use is giving our customers superior business advantages, delivering consistent, high quality engineering GIS modeling data, enhanced efficiency and reliable, cost-effective projects. The city of Tampa Wastewater Department is a vivid illustration of how progressive, leading wastewater utilities are using these highly effective tools to optimize capital planning and raise the bar for better infrastructure performance and customer service.”
