Broomfield, Colorado USA, June 11, 2008 — MWH Soft, a leading global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, today announced that Gold Coast Water (GCW), Queensland, Australia, has adopted the company’s industry-leading H2OMAP Water Suite and H2OMAP SWMM Suite software as its standard water, recycled water and wastewater network modeling solution. The suites will serve as the foundation for developing a comprehensive geospatial solution for operating, managing and maintaining GCW’s complex water and wastewater systems and support planning for water, recycled water and wastewater infrastructure for the next 50 years. The selection further substantiates MWH Soft’s leadership in geospatial hydraulic infrastructure management in the Asia-Pacific market.
Gold Coast City is Queensland’s second-largest metropolis, covering an area of 1,402 square kilometers (541 square miles) and is one of the fastest growing regions within Australia. GCW, established in 1995 as a Directorate of the Gold Coast City Council, has been recognized with many prestigious industry awards including the 2007 United Nation’s (Australian chapter) Excellence in Water Management Award, the 2006 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Sustainable Industries Awards — Sustainability in Public Sector or Community Initiatives Award for the Gold Coast Watersaver Service, the 2006 International Water Association (IWA) Project Innovation Award, the 2005 Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia QLD Division Inc.’s Engineering Excellence Award Innovation, and the 2005 Project Management Achievement Awards — Presidents Award QLD — GCW for the Pimpama Coomera Waterfuture Master Plan.
GCW provides water and wastewater services to more than 10.4 million tourists annually and to over 497,000 residents in 209,000 residential and 17,138 non-residential properties. Its water distribution system comprises 3,140 km of water mains, 78 reservoirs, 66 pump stations, and two water treatment plants. The wastewater system consists of a complex network of 3,125 km of wastewater mains, 606 pump stations, four wastewater treatment plants, 131 km of recycled water mains and one recycled water treatment plant.
“We determined to standardize on H2OMAP Water Suite and H2OMAP SWMM Suite for four key reasons,” said GCW Manager of Infrastructure Planning, Bill Capati. “First, the programs are very easy to learn and use. Second, they’re powerful enough to analyze extremely large and complex detailed dynamic models quickly and reliably. Thirdly, GCW is about to initiate a review of its Priority Infrastructure Plan (PIP) which involves extensive network modeling of all of its service networks, and will determine work schedules for required augmentation of water, recycled water and wastewater infrastructure to meet growth over the next 50 year planning horizon. And fourth, MWH Soft’s outstanding support and reputation in the market. These all-in-one engineer-friendly packages will allow us to improve our current water, recycled water and wastewater modeling productivity and performance by establishing a standard geospatial modeling and design platform — a base from which we can better manage our infrastructure in a sustainable way, optimize capital planning and continue to best serve our customers.”
Developed and supported by industry experts, H2OMAP Water and H2OMAP SWMM suites offer a single comprehensive, GIS-based solution that addresses every facet of utility infrastructure management, operation, and protection — delivering the highest rate of return in the industry. Drawing on the most advanced hydraulic and water quality simulation and geospatial analysis technologies, the software effortlessly reads GIS datasets; corrects network topology problems and data flaws; extracts pertinent modeling information; and reliably constructs credible network models with astounding speed. Once models have been established, users can easily run and simulate various conditions, pinpoint system deficiencies, and determine the most cost-effective physical and operational improvements to achieve optimum performance and regulatory compliance while improving community relations — giving water and wastewater utilities a clear competitive advantage.
“Top water and wastewater utilities worldwide have standardized their development of hydraulic network models around MWH Soft software,” commented Justin Hanson, MWH Soft Asia-Pacific Director. “Because they're both powerful and easy to use, H2OMAP Water and H2OMAP SWMM will help GCW improve productivity, realize many efficiencies in a short time, and pass these benefits on to their customers through better designs and higher quality standards. Seeing technology-leading utilities like GCW implement our products is the ultimate confirmation of their value.”
“GCW has a long-standing tradition of innovation and engineering excellence,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, President and COO of MWH Soft. “They are known for their commitment to giving their superlative engineers and GIS professionals the very best tools for delivering high quality projects and exceptional customer service. The fact that our water and sewer modeling solution is their software of choice speaks volumes about its value and superiority. We’re proud to know that our applications are in place at many of the world’s best-run utility companies of every size, helping them meet their corporate and strategic goals, remain on the cutting edge of the water industry, and achieve world-class performance at breakthrough cost savings.”
